The role
As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll be an experienced and skilled member of our maintenance team, undertaking detailed mechanical activities across aircraft and components. Your work ensures aircraft are maintained, rectified and prepared to meet their daily operational tasks — directly supporting fast‑jet training and contributing to aviation safety.
You’ll maintain and develop your technical competence, work to approved data and maintenance instructions, and support a busy operational environment where flexibility, teamwork and attention to detail are essential.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
Complete mechanical maintenance and diagnostic activities on aircraft and components, including scheduled servicing, system tests, repairs and rectifications.
Analyse and diagnose mechanical faults, applying your technical knowledge to identify solutions and support safe, effective repairs.
Review operational performance of aircraft components and help implement improvements to procedures and maintenance practices.
Maintain your personal competencies in line with the Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE) and operate strictly to approved technical information.
Support compliance activities across the maintenance facility, including tooling control, documentation checks and other mandated processes.
This is a permanent, full‑time, onsite position at RAF Valley, working 37.5 hours per week plus shifts, with an additional shift allowance.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Technician:
Completion of an engineering apprenticeship (ideally aeronautical).
Minimum of City & Guilds 2675 Aeronautical Engineering & Maintenance or NVQ Level 3 Aeronautical discipline.
Experience gained in a similar aircraft maintenance environment.
Ability to work to approved data, maintenance instructions and safety‑critical procedures.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Technician:
Aeronautical Engineering apprenticeship or military equivalent.
Airframe and Propulsion trade training.
Computer literate.
